Augusta Leads After Day Two of MEAC Golf Championships

SAVANNAH, Ga., April 20, 2018
—Through 36 holes in the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Golf Championship at Crosswinds Golf Club, Augusta University holds a 23-stroke lead, sitting at 4-over with a two-day total of 580 (292-288).
 
The three-time defending MEAC champion also has three of the top five spots in the individual leaderboard, including overall leader Alex Shead – who fired a 5-under 67 on Friday to sit at 4-under overall (140). Shead’s 67 was the low round of the day and of the tournament.
 
Shead had nine birdies on the round, including six on the back nine and a stretch of four in a row from the 10th through the 13th holes.
 
Teammate Broc Everett and Savannah State’s Zach Otto – the 18-hole leader – are tied for second at 1-over (145).
 
Laken Hinton of Augusta sits fourth after two rounds at 2-over (146).
 
Florida A&M’s Alejandro Toro and Bethune-Cookman’s Daniel Brennan are tied for fifth at 4-over (148). Brennan shot a 1-under 71 on Friday, the only round under par other than Shead on what was a chilly, breezy day.
 
Rounding out the individual top 10 are Bethune-Cookman’s Marcus Sundlof (5-over 149) in seventh, Augusta’s Gustav Andersson in eighth (6-over 150) and Blair Waters of Maryland Eastern Shore (7-over 151) in ninth – and a tie for 10th at 8-over between Olof Gunnarsson of Augusta and Prince Cunningham of Florida A&M.
 
Bethune-Cookman, the 2017 runner-up, now sits in second place at 27-over (301-302=603), while Florida A&M is in third at 31-over (292-315=607).
 
Savannah State (303=319=622) sits in fourth at 46-over, while North Carolina Central, at 63-over (315-324=639), is fifth. Hampton (328-332=660), North Carolina A&T State (336-345=681) and Maryland Eastern Shore round out the eight-team field.
 
Saturday’s final round will begin with the first tee time at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will again be available through GolfStat.
 
The championship is free and open to the public.


RESULTS NOTE: Though the results do not reflect as such in the team standings, Maryland Eastern Shore is in eighth place following Thursday’s disqualification of one of its players.
