Morgan State’s Gabriella Gorosave was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Norfolk State’s Hunter Halford and Florida A&M’s Kyaira Brown were named Co-Pitchers of the Week while Coppin State’s Nia Bowe was selected as Rookie of the Week.
Gorosave (2B, Jr., Bellingham, Wash.) batted .526 with 10 hits and 12 RBI while also recording three doubles as Morgan State finished 4-1. Against Missouri Kansas City last week, she finished 4-for-5 with a double and five RBI along with a three-hit game versus Howard. She finished with six RBI in the series sweep over Howard while also totaling six hits.
Halford (P, Jr., Jacksonville, N.C.) displayed her versatility as she earned MEAC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors one week after being named Co-Player of the Week. In two games against Maryland Eastern Shore last week, Halford finished with a 0.00 ERA while recording 12 strikeouts and a save. She held opposing batters to a .040 average while only allowing one hit and no walks. She struck out 12 in a shutout over Eastern Shore while coming out of the pen during an extra inning affair and recording a key save with the tying run on second.
Brown (P, Jr., Tallahassee, Fla.) finished with a 3-0 record as FAMU remained undefeated in MEAC play. She struck out 14 batters in 12 innings of play with a complete game while holding batters to a .171 average. Brown threw a one-hitter while striking out eight in the series opener versus South Carolina State and allowed no hits in two innings of relief action in an extra inning win over SC State.
Bowe (OF, Fr., Milford, Del.) batted .421 (8-of-19) with five RBI and two home runs for Coppin State. She opened the series against Eastern Shore with a 2-for-3 performance which included a pair of home runs and runs scored while finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in a win over Delaware State.

Jocelyn Avera (Howard) recorded a .308 average with four hits, three runs and six stolen bases.
Alannah Baiyina (Howard) batted .333 with two RBI and three stolen bases in five games played last week.
Alexis Bermudez (Bethune-Cookman) batted .375 with three hits and three RBI while also seeing action on the mound against North Carolina A&T State.
Shelby DesChamps (Norfolk State) batted .600 with five stolen bases in the series against Eastern Shore.
Madison Didion (Coppin State) struck out 31 batters in five appearances while posting a 4-1 record over the past week.
Destiny Enriquez (Bethune-Cookman) went 1-0 on the mound with three strikeouts and no walks allowed.
Khaliyah Flournory (Delaware State) batted .455 (5-of-11) with six runs scored and two doubles in the series against Coppin State.
Amanda Hallman (Savannah State) went 1-1 with a 2.33 ERA last week in two starts at North Carolina
Central. She pitched a complete shutout game in the first game of the series en route to a victory while scattering two hits with eight strikeouts.
Mohagony Headen (North Carolina A&T State) recorded 19 strikeouts and a 2.10 ERA in four appearances last week.
Cortni Jones (Savannah State) led Savannah State with a .500 (4-for-8) batting average with two runs scored and two RBIs with a slugging percentage of .750 and an on-base percentage of .600.
Courtney Mirabella (North Carolina Central) combined for 33 strikeouts in three games while posting a 1.40 ERA.
Kayla Porter (Norfolk State) picked up a win over Eastern Shore while only allowing one run.
Stephanie Rundlett (Morgan State) went 2-1 with a save while striking out 14 batters in four appearances.
Kial Watts (Hampton) was 2-for-3 against No. 5-ranked Florida on Saturday.
Stephanie Williams (North Carolina A&T State) totaled 14 bases and batted .375 with six RBI, five runs scored, two doubles, two stolen bases and a home run.
Tanisha Williams (Savannah State) pitched a complete game at North Carolina Central to clinch the series.
Jalian Young (Morgan State) batted .400 with six hits, four runs and two doubles as Morgan State finished the week with a 4-1 record.
