MEAC Completes Day One of 2018 Golf Championships

SAVANNAH, Ga., April 19, 2018
—After the first day of the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Golf Championships at the Crosswinds Golf Club on Thursday, three-time defending champion Augusta University and Florida A&M are tied atop the leaderboard.
 
The Jaguars and Rattlers each shot a 4-over 292 on Thursday.
 
Zach Otto of Savannah State holds the individual lead after the first round, which was played under sunny, breezy conditions. Otto shot to a 3-under 69, recording birdies on seven and nine sandwiched around a bogey, before making the turn and recording birdies on the 10th and 18th holes.
 
Florida A&M’s Prince Cunningham is the only other player under par, having fired a 1-under 71 on Thursday. He recorded four birdies on the front nine, against three bogeys, and he birdied the 18th hole to secure a round in red numbers.
 
Augusta’s Brock Everett is third after shooting an even-par 72.
 
Bethune-Cookman’s Marcus Sundlof is among four golfers tied for fourth at 1-over; he shot a 73 on Thursday, as did Florida A&M’s Alejandro Toro and Augusta’s Alex Shead and Lake Hinton.
 
Five golfers sit at 2-over, tied for eighth: North Carolina Central’s Jordan Bohannon, Cameron Riley and Mahindra Latchman of Florida A&M, Augusta’s Gustav Andersson and Dante Davis of Bethune-Cookman.
 
Bethune-Cookman, the 2017 runner-up, sits third in the team standings after the first day with a 13-over 301. Savannah State, at 15-over (303), is fourth, followed by North Carolina Central (315, +27), Maryland Eastern Shore (322, +34), Hampton (328, +40) and North Carolina A&T State (336, +48).
 
Friday’s second round will begin with the first tee time at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will again be available through GolfStat.
 
The championship is free and open to the public.
