MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Tennis Honors

NORFOLK, Va., April 18, 2018Norfolk State sophomore Andres Alcaraz was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Morgan State’s Shrey Gupta was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Alcaraz (So., Pachuca, Mexico) defeated Hampton’s Fernando Fernandes 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles spot, before turning in a 7-6, 6-2 performance to defeat Lucas Krusinski of Morgan State. Alcaraz also teamed with Dan Dumitrascu to defeat Morgan State’s Sebastian Lopez and Ogukhan Ceylan 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles position.
 
Gupta (Fr., Yamunanagar, India) went a perfect 3-0 in singles matches this past week, a stretch that saw him notch conference victories over Norfolk State and Coppin State, as well as a non-conference win against Hofstra. He defeated the Eagles’ Gavin Lewis 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles spot, before defeating Hofstra’s Jan Leithner 6-1, 6-1. He then defeated Norfolk State’s Flavian Fernandes 6-4, 6-4.
 
Other Top Performers
Juan Diego Ruiz (B-CU) notched a 7-6, 7-5 win over Florida A&M’s Jermaine LeGrand.
 
Matthew Foster-Estwick (HAM) recorded singles wins against Radford and Coppin State, while also going 3-1 in doubles play.
 
Lucas Krusinski (MSU) recorded singles wins against Hofstra and Coppin State this past week.
