Florida A&M’s Tyra Bowers was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Morgan State’s Stephanie Rundlett was named Pitcher of the Week while Coppin State’s Nia Bowe and Norfolk State’s Kayla Porter were selected as Co-Rookies of the Week.

Bowers (OF, Jr., Eustis, Fla.) led the MEAC with 10 hits while sporting a .667 average (10-of-15) as Florida A&M finished the week with a 3-1 record. The junior outfielder stole four bases while scoring six runs and driving in a pair of RBI with two doubles. She also added a triple and drew two walks. Batting leadoff for the Rattlers, Bowers opened the week with a hit at Jacksonville and started a game-tying rally in the top of the seventh against Savannah State with a leadoff single and run. She also scored in the top of the 10th to spark a comeback over the Lady Tigers. On Sunday, Bowers once again came up big with the game on the line as she recorded a hit and scored in a four-run eighth-inning win over Savannah State.

Rundlett (P, So., York, Maine) posted a .048 ERA over the week as she finished with a 3-0 record while only allowing one run with 14 strikeouts. She opened the week with a seven-strikeout performance at Towson State as the win marked the first time in 17 tries that Morgan State defeated Towson while also handing Towson only its second loss of the season at home at the time. Rundlett, who has won seven straight contests dating back to March 30, put the clamps on Delaware State as she threw a pair of shutouts while allowing only three hits as Morgan State sits atop the Northern Division.

Bowe (OF, Fr., Milford, Del.) finished the week with a .600 (3-of-5) average while driving in two RBI and recording a double versus Drexel.

Porter (INF, Fr., Morehead City, N.C.) drove in four RBI with five hits and a walk in the series against Howard. Porter batted 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI in game two while recording a hit in games one and three.
