MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Tennis Honors

NORFOLK, Va., April 11, 2018Morgan State senior Danielle Thompson was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Rehaana Butt was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Thompson (Sr., Nassau, Bahamas) was 3-0 this past week, picking up singles wins against both Bucknell and Howard, while also notching a doubles win against Bucknell. Playing in the No. 1 position, she defeated Bucknell’s Lisa Jouravleva 6-1, 6-0 – while also teaming with Peggy Rooke for a 6-2 doubles win over Jouravleva and Paige Leavy. Thompson then defeated Howard’s Nathalie Finch 6-4, 6-2 in helping the Lady Bears notch their second MEAC win of the season.
 
Butt (Fr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) dominated Savannah State’s Sofia Shut’ko in the No. 2 singles position, winning the match 6-0, 6-1 after pairing with Matea Roki for a 6-2 doubles win over Muskaan Ranjan and Sansriti Ranjan in the No. 1 spot to give the Wildcats the doubles point.

Matea Roki (B-CU) defeated Savannah State’s Ekaterina Vorobeva 6-0, 6-0.
 
Yassmine Khiri (HOW) defeated Morgan State’s Alexus Gill 6-4, 6-3.
 
Kindha Nasef (HOW) picked up singles wins against Coppin State (6-2, 6-3 over Shariah Dunwell) and Morgan State (6-4, 5-7, 6-2 over Dana Santiago).
 
Asmara Faluke (MSU) picked up singles and doubles wins against Howard en route to a 3-1 week.
 
Renata Rabadan Ruiz (NCAT) won singles matches against Meredith Smith of east Carolina (6-1, 6-0) and Savannah State’s Shakendra Alston (6-1, 6-1).
