NORFOLK, Va., March 28, 2018—
Bethune-Cookman senior Alejandra Vidal and
Norfolk State senior Dajana Cvjetkovic were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Bethune-Cookman’s Rehaana Butt and
Hampton’s Yulia Kapitanova were named Co-Rookies of the Week.
Vidal (Sr., Maracaibo, Venezuela) reached a career milestone over the weekend, as her 7-6, 6-4 win over Southern’s Tanaka Chakanyuka marked the 100
th combined win of her career. Vidal was strong this past week, also notching a singles win over Hofstra’s Alejandra Ruffini, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. She was also 2-0 in doubles play this past week, along with Karen Romero.
Cvjetkovic (Sr., Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina) notched a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 singles position over Cassandra Boltan of Delaware State, helping the Spartans pick up their first conference win of the season. She also won in the top doubles spot, teaming with Paula Fortuno for a 6-4 victory over Boltan and Sofia Rachi.
Butt (Fr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) was dominant in a 6-1, 6-1 singles victory over Jasmine King of Hofstra in the No. 2 position, while also notching a 7-0 doubles win over King and Sarah Herndon alongside Matea Roki in the No. 1 doubles position.
Kapitanova (Fr., Moscow, Russia) defeated Howard’s Kindha Nasef 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles position, helping the Lady Pirates win their first conference match of the season. She also teamed with Mariam Mitaishvili in the No. 1 doubles spot for a 7-5 win over Nicole Hutchison and Nasef.
