CHESAPEAKE, Va., March 23, 2018 – The 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championships got underway on Friday at the AMF Chesapeake Lanes, with North Carolina A&T State earning the top seed for Saturday’s bracket play.
 
The seeding was determined by total pinfall from Friday’s team play.
 
North Carolina A&T State, the Southern Division regular-season champion, totaled 5,055 pins over the course of five games, winning all five. The Aggies defeated Florida A&M 954-810, Maryland Eastern Shore 1015-904, Delaware State 1031-900, Norfolk State 1012-929 and Morgan State 1043-836.
 
NCAT will have a first-round bye on Saturday.
 
Northern Division champion Delaware State earned the No. 2 seed, and the second first-round bye on Saturday, with 4,769 total pins. The Hornets were 3-2 on the day, picking up wins over Norfolk State (1012-888), Florida A&M (1004-850) and Morgan State (976-906).
 
Defending tournament champion Maryland Eastern Shore (4,636 total pinfall) picked up the No. 3 seed, while Norfolk State (4,378 total pinfall) earned the No. 4 seed.
 
Florida A&M (4,269) and Morgan State (4,123) were the No. 5 and 6 seeds, respectively.
 
Saturday’s double-elimination bracket play, in best-of-seven Baker format, kicks off at 9 a.m. with Norfolk State taking on Florida A&M and Maryland Eastern Shore squaring off against Morgan State. The Norfolk State-FAMU winner will face North Carolina A&T State at 10:40 a.m., with Delaware State taking on the Eastern Shore-Morgan winner in the other bracket.
 
The tournament will conclude with the championship match on Sunday at 12 p.m. The match will be shown live on ESPN3, before airing via rebroadcast on ESPNU on Sunday, April 1 at 9 p.m.
