NORFOLK, Va., March 21, 2018North Carolina A&T State junior Sheyla Ramirez was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Rehaana Butt and Howard’s Nathalie Finch were named Co-Rookies of the Week.
 
Ramirez (Jr., Nueva Bolivia, Venezuela) went 4-0 this past week, picking up two singles victories and a pair of doubles wins. She defeated South Carolina State’s Anjela Mihajlovic 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles position, before teaming with Khalia Powell for a 6-3 win in No. 1 doubles. Against Longwood, Ramirez defeated Yulia Almiron 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 position, before picking up a 6-3 doubles victory alongside Powell.
 
Butt (Fr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) was key in Bethune-Cookman’s 4-3 win over Northern Illinois, picking up a 6-3, 6-2 singles victory over Abigail Dekkingo at the No. 2 position – while also teaming with Matea Roki for a 6-2 doubles win at No. 1 over Evelyn Youel and Maria Potsi.
 
Finch (Fr., Del Ray Beach, Fla.) recorded a pair of singles victories at the No. 1 position, defeating Rochester’s Camila Garcia 7-6, 6-2 and Chicago State’s Mariya Kostyuk 7-5, 6-4. She also picked up a doubles win alongside Nicole Hutchison, 6-4 over Garcia and Sravya Gudipudi of Rochester.

Matea Roki (B-CU) picked up a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Thisuri Molligoda of Northern Illinois.
 
Haleigh Porter (FAMU) defeated Abigail Dekkingo of Northern Illinois 7-5, 6-1.
 
Nicole Hutchison (HOW) had singles victories over Rochester and Chicago State.
 
Andjela Vasic (SCSU) picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Angelica Martinez of North Carolina A&T State.
 
Shakendra Alston (SSU) defeated Lafayette’s Katie Hill 6-4, 6-4 and picked up a 6-2 doubles win alongside Ekaterina Vorobeva.
 
Muskaan Ranjan (SSU) defeated Lafayette’s Meredith Block 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles position.
