MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

Delaware State's Desiree Moreno was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Coppin State's Madison Didion and Hampton's Allyson Babinsack shared Co-Pitcher of the Week honors while Nia Bowe of Coppin State and Alyssa Diaz of Delaware State were named Co-Rookies of the Week.
 
Moreno (C, So., Carson, Calif.) batted .429 (6-of-14) with a league-best eight RBI and 12 total bases as the Hornets opened MEAC play with a three-game sweep over Maryland Eastern Shore. She also totaled four runs while belting two home runs. Moreno opened the series with a bang as she went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs scored and a home run while following her performance in game two of Saturday's doubleheader with another 3-for-5 performance which included three RBI, two runs and a homer.
  
Bowe (OF, Fr., Milford, Del.) ranked second in the MEAC with seven RBI while tying for the lead in home runs with two. She also ranked second in total bases with 11. Bowe made her MEAC debut in style as she hit two home runs while driving in four RBI with a pair of runs against Norfolk State.
 
Diaz (SS, Fr., Fontana, Calif.) batted .625 (5-for-8) with five RBI while drawing a pair of walks and a stolen base. In the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader versus Maryland Eastern Shore, Diaz finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a stolen base while recording five assists in the field.
 
Babinsack (P, Jr., Hampton, Va.) led Hampton to a pair of wins over Morgan State this past weekend as she held the Bears to a .196 average while recording four strikeouts and allowing only three runs.
 
Didion (P, Jr., Montesano, Wis.) struck out a MEAC-best 24 batters while compiling a 2-1 record and a 3.67 ERA over the past week. She opened the week with eight strikeouts versus Albany while combining to fan 16 in a pair of wins over Norfolk State.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Hunter Halford (Norfolk State) posted a 1-0 record with four strikeouts versus Coppin State.
 
Jazzmine Hammond (Norfolk State) stole three bases during Norfolk State's three-game series against Coppin State.
 
DaSha Hill (Hampton) batted .625 with five hits and four stolen bases as Hampton claimed two wins over Morgan State.
 
Ryan Jackson (Bethune-Cookman) hit a team-high tying .571 last week while hitting her 11th home run in two games versus George Mason.
 
Jaylene Pryor (Norfolk State) finished the week with a .667 average as she also recorded six hits and three doubles.
 
Stephanie Rundlett (Morgan State) struck out 16 batters and recorded a save in three games.
 
Patricia Soria (Coppin State) drove in four RBI while batting .467 in five games last week.
