The Hampton University and North Carolina A&T State's men's basketball teams will continue postseason play in a pair of tournaments this week. The Pirates will compete in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) at Notre Dame on Tuesday while North Carolina A&T State will travel to Liberty on Monday in its CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
The Pirates earned the NIT bid after earning the top-seed in the MEAC Tournament with its share of the regular-season title. This marks the fifth straight year and sixth in the last eight that Hampton has made the post-season under head coach Edward "Buck" Joyner Jr. Hampton has made the NCAA Tournament three times (2011, 2015,2016) and the College Basketball Invitational (2014, 2017). This is Hampton's first-ever NIT Tournament appearance. The contest will be on Tuesday night at 9 p.m. at Purcell Pavillion at the Joyce Center and will be broadcasted on ESPN. The winner will face either Penn State or Temple in the second round.
The Aggies have accepted an invitation to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and will play the Liberty Flames (20-14, 9-9 Big South) in Lynchburg, Va., on Monday, March 12 at 6 p.m. The Flames fell in the finals of their championship tournament to Radford on a buzzer-beater. North Carolina A&T State's 17th 20-win season in school history earned them their first postseason appearance in five years.
