MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Tennis Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 7, 2018Bethune-Cookman senior Alejandra Vidal and Howard junior Nicole Hutchison were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Howard’s Yassmine Khiri was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Vidal (Sr., Maracaibo, Venezuela) picked up singles and doubles wins this past weekend against College of Charleston. In the No. 3 singles position, she defeated Rachel McNeely 6-3, 6-4, and she teamed with Karen Romero in the No. 2 doubles spot for a 7-6 win over Laura Arciniegas and Turner Yates.
 
Hutchison (Jr., Houston, Texas) won her singles match against Loyola (Md.) this past weekend, defeating Lin Robertson 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 3 position. She also won her doubles match, along with Nathalie Finch, defeating Kateri Martin and Amanda Lanciano 6-4 in the No. 1 spot.
 
Khiri (Fr., Marrakesh, Morocco) won her singles match against Loyola (Md.), defeating Lanciano 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 position. She also dropped a hard-fought, 7-6 doubles match along with Kindha Nasef, falling to Abigail Thornton and Nicole Eberle.

Khalia Powell (NCAT) defeated Western Carolina’s Savannah Taranto 6-2, 7-5.
