NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 27, 2018—
Morgan State senior Lexus Spears was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
North Carolina Central’s Kieche White earned Rookie of the Week honors, while
Norfolk State redshirt junior Khadedra Croker and
North Carolina A&T State sophomore Alexus Lessears were named Co-Defensive Players of the Week.
Spears (F, 6-2, Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) shot a combined 20-for-25 (.800) from the floor in two games this past week, averaging 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest. Against Hampton, Spears scored 18 points on 9-for-11 shooting, while grabbing five rebounds and two steals. She followed that up on Monday with a career-high 26 points, going 11-for-14 from the floor and grabbing eight boards.
White (G, 5-4, Fr., Washington, D.C.) averaged 15.0 points and 4.0 assists per game this past week in helping North Carolina Central pick up a pair of road wins. She dropped 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting, to go along with three assists and three rebounds, against South Carolina State, before turning in a 14-point, five-assist, two-steal performance against Savannah State.
Croker (F/C, 6-3, r-Jr., Suffolk, Va.) averaged 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game for the Spartans this past week. She grabbed 17 boards – all on the defensive end – against Maryland Eastern Shore to go along with a pair of blocked shots. In an overtime win over Howard, Croker turned in an eight-rebound, two-block, one-steal performance.
Lessears (C, 6-3, So., Cleveland, Ohio) averaged 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game this past week for the Aggies, and she recorded 10 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot in Monday’s win over Bethune-Cookman. On Saturday against Florida A&M, Lessears blocked three shots, had one steal and grabbed seven rebounds.
Other Top Performers
Briana Hardee (B-CU) had 21 points and 11 rebounds against North Carolina A&T State, after grabbing 10 boards against Savannah State.
Amaya Scott (B-CU) scored 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting against Savannah State, while also grabbing three steals and dishing out two assists.
Genesis Lucas (CSU) scored 22 points, to go along with five assists and three steals, against Morgan State.
Lanayjha Ashe (DSU) scored a career-high 27 points against Howard.
NaJai Pollard (DSU) had 27 points and eight rebounds against Howard.
Shakeyrra Morrison (FAMU) had 16 points and 11 rebounds against South Carolina State.
Ashley Bates (HAM) had 12 points, five rebounds and three steals against Morgan State.
Mikayla Sayle (HAM) scored a career-high 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds and three steals against Morgan State.
Imani Bryant (HOW) had 11 points and 15 rebounds against Norfolk State, after grabbing 11 boards against Delaware State.
Bairesha Gill-Miles (MDES) scored 12 points each against Norfolk State and Delaware State, while also grabbing 11 boards against the Hornets.
Braennan Farrar (MSU) had four steals against Hampton.
C’Coriea Foy (NCAT) had 16 points and five steals against Bethune-Cookman, after turning in a 13-point, three-steal effort against Florida A&M.
Caira Benton (NCCU) grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds against South Carolina State, before grabbing three steals against Savannah State.
Rodneysha Martin (NCCU) dropped 19 points and dished out five assists against South Carolina State.
Kayla Roberts (NSU) recorded a double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) against Howard.
Bryeasha Blair (SCSU) scored 26 points and had eight steals against Florida A&M.
