MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

Norfolk State's Shelby DesChamps was selected as selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. North Carolina Central's Courtney Mirabella was named Pitcher of the Week while Skylar Swain of Norfolk State earned Rookie of the Week honors.
 
DesChamps (OF, Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) was hot at the plate this past weekend as she led the MEAC with a .615 (8-of-13) average while driving in five RBIs, three doubles and scoring six runs. She drew five walks while stealing three bases en route to a .722 on-base percentage and .846 slugging percentage. She led Norfolk State to a 4-1 record as they hosted the Spartan Classic.
 
Swain (P, Fr., Portsmouth, Va.) logged a 3-0 record over the weekend while posting an ERA of 1.04. She struck out a total of seven batters while holding opposing batters to a .161 average.
 
Mirabella (P, Sr., Bradenton, Fla.) led the conference with 20 strikeouts while holding Howard University to only three hits in 12 innings of action. Against Howard in her first appearance, Mirabella took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and settled for a one-hitter. She returned to the mound in game two and completed her first shutout along with seven strikeouts.
 
Other Top Performers
Allyson Babinsack (Hampton) went 2-1 with a save while recording seven strikeouts in 19.1 innings of action.
 
Alexis Bermudez (Bethune-Cookman) did not allow an earned run in BCU’s eight-inning loss against San Diego State as she struck out five batters and scattered four hits with three unearned runs in the extra inning loss.
 
Nia Bowe (Coppin State) batted .500 with a pair of RBI and hits.
 
Kyaira Brown (Florida A&M) struck out 11 batters in four appearances.
 
Madison Didion (Coppin State) recorded eight strikeouts while only allowing three runs and one earned run with a .090 ERA in two games.
 
Ava Dolan (North Carolina Central) posted a perfect (1.000) on-base percentage in six plate appearances against Howard, going 4-for-4 with a walk and a sacrifice. Scored in both games and hit a triple and a home run in the doubleheader sweep.
 
Hunter Halford (Norfolk State) tied the Norfolk State record for most innings pitched in a game with 11. Also struck out seven in two games en route to a 1-1 record.
 
Dasha Hill (Hampton) went 3-for-3 at the plate against Youngstown State as she also scored four times with four stolen bases over the weekend.
 
Kailey Richard (Bethune-Cookman) went 5-for-14 adding an RBI, one run and 18 putouts in the field.
 
Patricia Soria (Coppin State) batted .545 (6-of-11) with four RBI’s and three doubles during a four-game span.

Lauren Williams (Florida A&M) hit .615 in five (5) games, going 8-for-13 with one double, two home runs and six RBIs.
 
Damali Young (Morgan State) batted .500 with six hits, including a double and a homerun against Louisville.
