MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

Bethune-Cookman’s Ryan Jackson and Savannah State’s Cortni Jones were selected as selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Softball Players of the Week, the conference announced today. Florida A&M’s Veronica Burse and Savannah State’s Amanda Hallman shared Co-Pitchers of the Week Honors while Bethune-Cookman’s Alexis Bermudez was named Rookie of the Week.

Jones (3B, 5-5, Jr., Snellville, Ga.) was the MEAC's top batter after the past weekend as she finished her weekend with a .667 average while tying for the league lead in hits (10), second in home runs (2), sith in runs scored (6), third in doubles (2), fifth in RBIs (6), second in total bases (18), first in on-base percentage (.667) and slugging percentage (1.200). Savannah State opened the season with a 3-1 record as Jones' best game was a 4-for-4 performance with a home run versus Norfolk State.

Jackson (OF, 5-6, So., Chino Hills, Calif.) batted .556 over the weekend while racking up 10 hits, five doubles, a home run and six RBIs. She also scored four runs while stealing four bases. The Wildcats finished the weekend with a 3-2 mark with wins over Stetson, Quinnipiac and Northern Iowa. She batted .750 in two games over the weekend as she batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a double versus LIU Brooklyn. Versus Quinnipiac, Jackson also went 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI.

Bermudez (P, 5-6, Fr., Santa Fe Springs, Calif.) batted .429 with a team-high nine RBIs last weekend in Bethune-Cookman's five games. Against LIU Brooklyn, Bermudez batted .750 with three hits and two RBIs while also accounting for four RBIs and a homer versus Stetson. She also picked up a win on the mound against Stetson.

Brown (P, 5-7, So., Tallahassee, Fla.) struck out eight while compiling a 1.76 ERA in four appearances. She held opposing batters to a .153 average en route to picking up a big win over Texas Tech which saw her strike out four while allowing only four hits.

Hallman (P, 5-9, Sr., Kennesaw, Ga.) led the MEAC with two wins while compiling 13 strikeouts and a 0.75 ERA. Opponents finished with a .163 average against Hallman as she allowed only seven hits in three games played.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Meaghan Barfield (Norfolk State)
totaled 9-of-19 with 10 RBIs, three home runs, one double and a stolen base as Norfolk State finished with the weekend with a 4-2 record.

Samantha Casarez (Maryland Eastern Shore) batted .636 (7-of-11) with four RBIs, two doubles, a home run and stolen base.

Nasya Goodman (Maryland Eastern Shore) struck out eight with a 2.45 ERA in three games played.

Alyssa Lavine (Howard) finished 5-for-11 with eight RBI, thtee runs, two doubles a home run and a triple.

Skylar Swain (Norfolk State) went 1-1 on the mound with 12 strikeouts and a 2.40 ERA. Struvk out eight eight while allowing one run in a win over South Carolina State. 

Kamryn Tillman (Howard) batted .583 in four games played with her first career home run versus Maryland Eastern Shore.
