NORFOLK, Va. - Savannah State’s Alante Fenner has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced today.
Howard's R.J. Cole and
Maryland Eastern Shore’s Miryne Thomas were named Co-Rookies of the Week while
Savannah State’s Jahir Cabeza and
Bethune-Cookman’s Shawntrez Davis shared Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Fenner had an explosive weekend for the MEAC-leading Tigers as he averaged 31.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and two steals. He opened the weekend with a SSU Division I school single game record of 46 points while grabbing seven rebounds in a win over Morgan State. Against North Carolina A&T State on Monday night, Fenner scored 17 points with two steals as the win over the Aggies gave the Tigers a two-game lead in the MEAC standings. Fenner was near-perfect from the free throw line as he nailed 24-of-27 free throws for an average of 88.9 percent.
Thomas nearly averaged a double-double with 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in the past two contests for Maryland Eastern Shore. He scored 21 points with eight rebounds at Bethune-Cookman while scoring 18 points with 11 rebounds at Howard.
Cole finished the week with 22.5 points and six assists per game. He opened the past cycle with a 27-point, six-assist, three-rebound showing versus Hampton while scoring 18 points with nine rebounds and two steals versus Maryland Eastern Shore.
Davis averaged nine rebounds and 2.5 blocks as the Wildcats finished with a 2-0 mark. Versus Maryland Eastern Shore, Davis grabbed 11 rebounds with a blocked shot and returned to the court on Monday with a nine-rebound, four-block performance versus North Carolina Central.
Cabeza led the MEAC with eight total blocks in two games while averaging 5.5 rebounds. In Saturday’s win over Morgan State, Cabeza swatted six shots along with six rebounds and three steals while blocking a pair of shots and five rebounds in Monday’s win over North Carolina A&T State.

Raasean Davis (North Carolina Central) averaged a double-double of 20 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting over 65 percent during a two-game span. He scored a career-high 26 points at Bethune-Cookman.
Alex Long (NSU) averaged 11.5 points and seven rebounds while recording five steals and a pair of blocks against Hampton and Delaware State.
Jermaine Marrow (Hampton) became the 29
th Pirate to break the 1,000-point mark averaging 23 points in three wins against Howard, Norfolk State and Coppin State.
Jordan Perkins (North Carolina Central) captured his first career double-double at Bethune-Cookman with 17 points and 10 assists. He averaged 12 points and six assists over two games.
Pablo Rivas (North Carolina Central) averaged just shy of a double-double with 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, highlighted by a career-best of 21 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals at Bethune-Cookman.
Lamar Morgan, Jr. (Coppin State) scored a career-high 30 points while leading the team with nine rebounds and eight 3-pointers at Hampton.
Malique Trent-Street (Hampton) averaged 13.7 points, four assists and two steals during a three-game span and matched a season high with two blocks against Norfolk State.
Charles Williams (Howard) recorded consecutive 20-plus point performances as he averaged 25.5 points in two games against Hampton and Maryland Eastern-Shore.
Desmond Williams (Florida A&M) averaged 19 points, 4.5 rebounds, and two steals, highlighted by 21 points and eight rebounds in the win over North Carolina Central.
Kyle Williams (Norfolk State) tied a career-high with five three-pointers in the win against Delaware State and averaged 15 points over the past week.
