Howard's Dockery Receives AVCA East Region Honorable Mention

WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 4, 2018 -- Howard University senior Tamia Dockery received East Region Honorable Mention honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Tuesday.

Dockery, a senior setter from Richmond, Texas, is the first volleyball player from Howard to be honored regionally. She was also recognized this season as the MEAC Player of the Year.

"We are very proud that Tamia's effort this year was recognized by the committee," Bison head coach Shaun Kupferberg said. "She is one of the best setters in the country and sometimes her defense and hitting contributions are overlooked. This is one more accolade to add to her legacy as she leaves the program."

Dockery is a three-time captain,  playing in 125 matches, including all 30 this season. She has received MEAC Setter of the Week honors 14 times in her collegiate career, five of which were this season. For the past three years, Dockery was named All-MEAC.

She led the MEAC in assists this season and is in the top 70 in the nation. In her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, she accumulated more than 1,000 assists each year. She has totaled 3,849 assists, 1,040 digs, 266 kills, 126 blocks and 78 aces in her career.

Currently, Dockery holds the school record for assists and is ninth on the all-time digs list.

Howard volleyball has won the MEAC tournament championship in each of the last four years. Most recently, the Bison competed in the NCAA Tournament, where they faced No. 8 Penn State for their last match of the year.
