As the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) 12 women's basketball-playing institutions come toward final exams and the end of the fall 2018 semester, a limited slate of games highlights the coming week.
This past week saw Howard improve on its MEAC-best record, going to 5-2 overall with wins over George Mason and Niagara. Bethune-Cookman won its only game of the week, edging Jacksonville on the road 58-56 to improve to 4-2 on the year.
North Carolina A&T State defeated Western Carolina for its first win over a Div. I opponent in 2018-19, and South Carolina State picked up wins this past week over USC Upstate and Bob Jones. The Lady Bulldogs, in their first season under head coach Audra Smith, are 4-5.
Florida A&M also picked up its first win of the season this past week, defeating Edward Waters 70-64.
Bethune-Cookman's Angel Golden, who had her first career double-double against Jacksonville, and North Carolina A&T State's Charme Lilly, who went 5-for-5 from 3-point range at Western Carolina, were named MEAC Co-Players of the Week, while Howard's Krislyn Marsh was named Rookie of the Week and Coppin State's Chance Graham earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Saturday is the busy day this coming week, with six games on the docket. Five of the six MEAC teams that day will be on the road, with only South Carolina State playing in its home gym -- in fact, the Lady Bulldogs' tilt against UNLV will wrap up a five-game homestand.
Delaware State, Maryland Eastern Shore and South Carolina State are the only MEAC teams with more than one game scheduled this coming week.
