MEAC Lands Four on HERO Sports FCS All-America Team

Four Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) football student-athletes were named to the HERO Sports Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America Team, which was announced on Wednesday.

North Carolina A&T State defensive end Darryl Johnson, Jr., the 2018 MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, was the only First Team selection. He led the MEAC in sacks (10.5) and tackles for loss (18.5). Johnson is a two-time First Team All-MEAC performer for the nationally-ranked Aggies and is also a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award for the best FCS defensive player in the nation.

He was also named an Associated Press FCS All-American.

Micah Shaw of North Carolina A&T State, the 2018 MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year, and Florida A&M punter Chris Faddoul were each named Second Team All-Americans. Shaw anchored an offensive line that allowed the Aggies to rank second in the MEAC in scoring offense and third in total offense this season.

The Aggies produced the lone 1,000-yard rusher in the MEAC this season in Marquell Cartwright. Opposing defenders had trouble getting to the Aggies' backfield as the unit only allowed 12 sacks in the regular season.

Faddoul was a First Team All-MEAC selection this past season after leading the conference in punting with an average of 46.8 yards per boot.

Shaw and Faddoul were also Associated Press FCS All-Americans.

Bethune-Cookman's Jimmie Robinson was named Third Team All-American as a kick returner, coming off a 2018 campaign in which he ran three kickoffs back for touchdowns and was second in the MEAC in kickoff returns, averaging 33.2 yards per return.
