MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 18, 2018—North Carolina Central senior Rodneysha Martin and Coppin State junior Chance Graham were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Kiana Williams earned Rookie of the Week honors, while North Carolina Central junior Paulina Afriyie was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Martin (5-5, G, Sr., Olive Branch, Miss.) averaged 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game this past week in leading North Carolina Central to its first two wins of the season. She was a combined 18-for-32 (.563) from the floor, and she dropped a career-high 27 points in the win over UNC Greensboro. She followed that up with a 21-point, eight-rebound effort against Wofford, a game in which she went 9-for-15 from the floor.
 
Graham (6-0, F, Jr., Upper Marlboro, Md.) became the first women’s basketball player in Coppin State history this past week to record at least 30 points and 20 rebounds in a game, turning in a monster 31-point, 22-rebound effort against Niagara, going 9-for-20 from the floor. She also had five steals in that contest. For the week, Graham averaged 23.0 points and 16.5 rebounds per contest.
 
Williams (5-6, G, Fr., Columbia, Md.) dropped a career-high 23 points in the Wildcats’ 76-60 win over North Florida, hitting eight of her 16 field goals. She also grabbed 10 rebounds in the contest for her second straight double-double, to go along with a career high-tying eight assists and three steals.
 
Afriyie (5-11, F, Jr., Bronx, N.Y.) averaged 13.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game for the Lady Eagles, helping them to their first two wins of the season. Of her 26 combined rebounds, 15 came on the defensive end. She had 13 rebounds each in games against UNC Greensboro and Wofford, and she added a career-high five blocked shots against UNC Greensboro.

Chasimmie Brown (B-CU) grabbed 11 rebounds in the win over North Florida.
 
Angel Golden (B-CU) dropped 18 points against North Florida, eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her career.
 
Tsahai Corbie (CSU) scored 10 points at Minnesota.
 
NaJai Pollard (DSU) dropped 21 points and grabbed six rebounds at Cornell.
 
Mya Moye (FAMU) had 15 points, hitting three 3-pointers, against Miami (Ohio).
 
Dy’Manee Royal (FAMU) had 16 points and 13 rebounds against Miami (Ohio), and her layup in the closing seconds clinched the win.
 
Sarah Edmond (HOW) had 16 points and 10 assists against FIU.
 
Krislyn Marsh (HOW) scored 14 points against FIU.
 
Jihayah Chavis (MSU) nabbed four steals against Michigan.
 
Adre’onia Coleman (MSU) had 12 points and six rebounds against Michigan.
 
Ashia McCalla (MSU) had 12 points and four rebounds against Michigan.
 
Rayven Peeples (NCAT) recorded a double-double against East Tennessee State with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Charnise Tyler (NCAT) grabbed 11 rebounds against East Tennessee State.
 
Khadedra Croker (NSU) blocked three shots against High Point.
 
Raven Russell (NSU) dropped 17 points against High Point after recording a 13-point, nine-rebound effort against Longwood.
