BELLEVUE, Wash., Dec. 18, 2018–Howard University sophomore quarterback Caylin Newton added to his collection of postseason awards after being named to the 2018 HERO Sports FCS Sophomore All-America First Team. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
On Dec. 4, the Atlanta native was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Year after ranking among the nation's leaders in several categories, including passing yards per completion (1
st/16.85) and total offense (7
th/313.3).
After winning the 2017 MEAC Rookie of the Year, Newton finished his second season topping the league in passing yards (2,629) and passing TDs (22). In the season opener against Ohio (Sept. 1), he posted 532 total yards, which was the third-highest output in program history.
Additionally, he was selected to the 2018 Walter Payton Award Watch List after winning MEAC Offensive Player of the Week twice. Currently, he is a finalist for the Black College Football Player of the Year Award.
