MEAC Women's Basketball Shifts into Finals, Approaching Holiday

Many of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) 12 women's basketball-playing institutions are navigating through fall semester finals, while getting in even more non-conference contests as the calendar shifts toward the holidays and 2019.

This past week saw South Carolina State pick up a pair of wins to extend its winning streak to three. The Lady Bulldogs dispatched of Voorhees at home before closing out the homestand with a win over UNLV; so far, the Lady Bulldogs are 6-5 in their first season under head coach Audra Smith.

Delaware State and Bethune-Cookman also posted wins this past week; the Hornets took care of Cheyney -- thanks to an all-time stat line from senior forward NaJai Pollard (15-for-20 shooting, 32 points, 16 rebounds, seven blocked shots) -- and the Wildcats defeated Flagler behind Angel Golden's 28 points.

Bethune-Cookman and Howard currently hold the best record in the MEAC, both at 5-3.

Pollard was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week, along with South Carolina State's Taylor Brown. Bethune-Cookman swept the other weekly honors, with Camary Harris being named Rookie of the Week and Chasimmie Brown earning Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

All 12 teams are in action this week, though many of them only play one game.

MEAC preseason favorite North Carolina A&T State gets the week going with a 2 p.m. home tilt against Johnson C. Smith on Tuesday. The game had originally been scheduled for Monday, but wintery conditions throughout North Carolina forced the postponement.

The Aggies will also hit the road on Thursday to face East Tennessee State.

Saturday will see seven MEAC teams in action -- six of them on the road. Bethune-Cookman is the lone home team that day, welcoming North Florida to historic Moore Gym.

Coppin State, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central each have two games this week. Of those four, only North Carolina Central is at home for both contests -- playing host to UNC Greensboro on Wednesday and Wofford on Saturday.
