MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 11, 2018—Delaware State senior NaJai Pollard and South Carolina State junior Taylor Brown were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Camary Harris earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Bethune-Cookman senior Chasimmie Brown was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Pollard (F, 5-11, Sr., Richmond, Va.) averaged 22.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game this past week, going a combined 20-for-32 (.625) from the floor. In the Hornets’ 20-point win over Cheyney, she dropped 32 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and tied the program single-game record with seven blocked shots while going 15-for-20 from the floor and adding three steals. Against Xavier, Pollard went 5-for-12 from the floor, and her 13 points carried her over the 1,500-point mark for her career.
 
Brown (F, 6-0, Jr., Patterson, N.J.) was a big reason why South Carolina State went 2-0 this past week, with wins over Voorhees and UNLV. She went a combined 10-for-16 from the floor (.625) this past week, including an 8-for-10 effort against Voorhees – a game in which she dropped 21 points to go along with eight rebounds, three blocked shots and a pair of steals. She also had 12 points and six boards in the Lady Bulldogs’ win over UNLV.
 
Harris (G, 5-6, Fr., Suffolk, Va.) went 5-for-8 from the floor against Flagler, scoring 11 points to go along with two steals. The contest marked the first double-digit scoring effort of her collegiate career, and she played a career-best 34 minutes in making her first collegiate start.
 
Brown (F, 6-0, Sr., Deltona, Fla.)
averaged 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per contest this past week, to go along with 6.5 rebounds a game. Eight of her 13 rebounds in two games this past week were on the defensive end, and Brown had four blocked shots and two steals to go along with eight boards against Florida. She added three more steals in the win over Flagler.

dropped 28 points against Flagler.
 
Diamond Adams (CSU) dished out four assists and grabbed two steals at Ohio.
 
Kaiya Coleman (CSU) had 12 boards and four steals at Ohio.
 
Brooke Fields (CSU) had 26 points and hit four 3-pointers at Ohio.
 
Mya Moye (FAMU) had nine points on 4-for-8 shooting at Florida.
 
Sarah Edmond (HOW) scored a team-high 19 points in a loss to Richmond.
