MEAC Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season This Weekend

The 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball regular-season slate wraps up this weekend, as the tournament field will be set following Sunday's four-match docket.

Howard, despite losing to Maryland Eastern Shore in five sets on Sunday, can still wrap up the Northern Division crown outright with a win on Friday against Norfolk State. Even if the Bison and Hawks end the regular season tied, Howard wins the tiebreaker.

Coppin State is looking for its first MEAC tournament berth since 2015, and the Eagles are in great position to do just that following this past weekend's 3-1 win over rival Morgan State. The Eagles and Lady Bears are tied at 4-4 in the standings, though Morgan State does hold the tiebreaker should it come down to that in terms of seeding.

In the Southern Division, Florida A&M is in the driver's seat after Friday's 3-1 win over Bethune-Cookman. The Lady Rattlers have won five in a row and are one win away from clinching the Southern Division outright. B-CU is currently third in the standings, a half-game behind North Carolina A&T State -- but the Wildcats hold the tiebreaker over the Aggies.

North Carolina Central, with wins over Savannah State and South Carolina State, is in good position to make its third straight tournament appearance, sitting in fourth place in the Southern Division with just one regular-season match remaining: a Thursday tilt against rival North Carolina A&T State.

With a win, the Lady Eagles will clinch a tournament slot. NCCU also currently holds the potential tiebreaker over Savannah State.

Maryland Eastern Shore, with wins over Coppin State and Morgan State this weekend, will wrap up the Northern Division's No. 2 seed. The No. 3 and 4 seeds will likely come down to Morgan State and Coppin State, though Norfolk State -- with a win over Howard on Friday and some help from the Baltimore schools -- still has an outside shot at getting in.

Delaware State and South Carolina State have been eliminated from the tournament. Savannah State, which plays host to Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman this weekend, is also one loss away from elimination.
