MEAC Women's Basketball Rolling Into December

With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) 12 women's basketball institutions can now turn their attention to the end of November and the beginning of December, with the coming week boasting a slate of 16 games.

This past week saw numerous notable performances, particularly non-conference wins from Bethune-Cookman, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Norfolk State and South Carolina State. The Wildcats opened the week with a win over FIU, and Howard ended the week with a 19-point win over Fairleigh Dickinson.

Along the way, Norfolk State defeated Liberty 66-53, South Carolina State upended Presbyterian on the road, and Maryland Eastern Shore picked up a dominant home win over Regents.

The top individual performances of the week actually came in losses; Angel Golden, the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, dropped a MEAC- and career-high 32 points in a one-point loss to Georgia Southern, hitting seven 3-pointers, while Delaware State's NaJai Pollard lit up in-state rival Delaware for 31 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Howard and Bethune-Cookman have the best record in the MEAC so far this season, with both teams at 3-2.

Golden was named MEAC Player of the Week for the second time this season, while her teammate Kiana Williams -- who had 14 points and eight boards against FIU -- was named Rookie of the Week. Norfolk State's La'Deja James, who had seven steals against Liberty, was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Maryland Eastern Shore kicks off this week's action on Tuesday at Longwood. Saturday is the busiest day of the week, with five games on the docket -- including home games for Florida A&M, North Carolina Central and South Carolina State.

Wednesday will see four teams in action, with the Lady Bulldogs kicking off a three-game hosmestand against USC Upstate and Howard returning to Burr Gymnasium to take on George Mason.
