Tis the season to give thanks, yet women's basketball in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is still busy even as the holiday approaches.
This past week saw Norfolk State pick up its first two wins of the season, including a 65-58 triumph over Navy on Sunday. South Carolina State picked up its first win of the season against Charleston Southern, giving new head coach Audra Smith her first victory at the helm, and Delaware State got new head coach David Caputo in the win column by defeating Post.
Maryland Eastern Shore defeated Cheyney for its first win of the 2018-19 season after narrowly missing out on that win against Richmond. North Carolina A&T State's first win of the season also came this past week, 60-56 over Winston-Salem State.
Morgan State's Adre'onia Coleman was named MEAC Player of the Week after averaging a double-double this past week in two games in the Preseason WNIT. Myasia Jones continued her torrid start to the season for Savannah State, averaging 27 points per game for the week in earning Rookie of the Week honors. And Chance Graham of Coppin State, who had 10 rebounds, four blocks and four steals at No. 6 Mississippi State, was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Tuesday is the busiest day of the coming week, with seven MEAC teams in action throughout the day.
Morgan State will be in Puerto Rico on Thursday and Friday for tournament play that will see the Lady Bears going up against Georgia and Maryland. Florida A&M will be in Miami, Fla. for the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament, and North Carolina A&T State will be in Annapolis, Md. for a tournament hosted by Navy.
Norfolk State will also compete in a holiday tournament over the weekend.
