Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's basketball is entering its second week, with several teams already making their mark in non-conference play.
Savannah State and Bethune-Cookman are 2-0 after the first week of play. The Lady Tigers topped the 100-point mark in each of their first two games, including a school-record 155-point output in the opener against Div. III Wesleyan College. B-CU, meanwhile, opened with a win over Edward Waters before besting Liberty in overtime.
Preseason Player of the Year Angel Golden dropped 20 points in that contest.
Howard is 2-1 after posting back-to-back home wins to open the season, defeating La Salle 57-54 and NJIT 77-57. Sarah Edmond was strong all week, and she shared the MEAC Player of the Week honors with Golden.
Morgan State bounced back from an opening-night loss to defeat Washington Adventist 60-43 this past week.
In addition to Golden and Edmond, Savannah State earned a pair of MEAC weekly honors; Myasia Jones earned Rookie of the Week honors after averaging 23.5 points per game, and Jacquece Alston earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after averaging nine steals a contest.
Tuesday will see a slate of five games, with both North Carolina schools, Norfolk State and Delaware State all playing at home. Coppin State's home opener is Wednesday against UMBC.
