The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) slate of conference action is set to wrap up the first half of the season this coming weekend, and Howard stands alone as the only one of the MEAC's 12 volleyball-playing schools to be unbeaten in league play.
The Bison sit at 4-0, atop the Northern Division, after straight-set wins on the road over Delaware State and Northern Division preseason favorite Maryland Eastern Shore. Morgan State, which defeated Coppin State in straight sets on Thursday, and Maryland Eastern Shore, are tied at 2-1 in the North.
North Carolina A&T State, which defeated both Savannah State and South Carolina State this past weekend, sits atop the Southern Division at 3-1. Florida A&M is 2-1 in conference play despite Friday's four-set loss at Bethune-Cookman.
Bethune-Cookman sophomore outside hitter Jordan Jefferson was named MEAC Player of the Week -- largely on the strength of her 17-kill, 21-dig performance against Florida A&M -- and Howard's Kailyn Williams earned Rookie of the Week honors. Bethune-Cookman junior Shayla Eugene was named Defensive Specialist of the Week, and Howard's Tamia Dockery was named Setter of the Week.
Three non-conference match-ups highlight Tuesday action; North Carolina Central will play host to Davidson and South Carolina State will play host to Presbyterian, while Bethune-Cookman (at Florida Atlantic) will be on the road.
Florida A&M will play host to Alabama State on Saturday, sandwiched between the Lady Rattlers' MEAC matches.
Friday's action will be highlighted by a rivalry match-up in Greensboro, N.C., as the Aggies and Lady Eagles square off in the first of two reglular-season meetings. Bethune-Cookman will be hone this weekend against South Carolina State and Savannah State, and Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore will both hit the road to face the Baltimore schools.
Howard's lone match of the week will be Friday, when the Bison travel to Norfolk, Va. to take on Norfolk State.
