NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 7, 2018—Bethune-Cookman sophomore Jordan Jefferson was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Howard’s Kailyn Williams was named Rookie of the Week, while
Bethune-Cookman junior Shayla Eugene earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and
Howard senior Tamia Dockery was named Setter of the Week.
Jefferson (5-8, So., OH, San Antonio, Texas) averaged five digs and three kills per set this past weekend, and her 17-kill, 21-dig effort on Saturday against Florida A&M helped the Lady Wildcats notch their first conference win of the season. Jefferson also had a pair of service aces in that match, and she followed that performance with a defensive gem on Sunday, racking up 14 digs in a non-conference match against FIU.
Williams (5-8, Fr., OH, Arlington, Texas) came up big in Sunday’s three-set win over Northern Division preseason favorite Maryland Eastern Shore, racking up 13 kills and hitting .226. She hit .375 on Friday in a straight-set win over Delaware State, tallying four kills, and for the weekend she averaged 4.25 kills per set and hit .256 over the course of four total sets played.
Eugene (5-4, Jr., DS, Fort Worth, Texas) averaged nearly five and a half digs per set this past weekend, and she had 25 digs in Friday’s four-set win over Florida A&M. She followed that up with another double-digit dig performance on Sunday, recording 13 in a non-conference match against FIU.
Dockery (5-8, Sr., S, Richmond, Texas) averaged 11.67 assists per set in helping the Bison improve to 4-0 in MEAC play with wins over Delaware State and Northern Division preseason favorite Maryland Eastern Shore. She had 37 assists to go along with four kills in the sweep of Delaware State, before turning in a 33-assist, eight-dig, one-ace effort on Sunday against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Skyla Whitaker (B-CU) had 12 digs and seven kills against Florida A&M.

Brianna Lang (CSU) had 41 assists and 12 digs against Rider.
