NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 3, 2018—North Carolina A&T State freshman Regan Kimtai was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Norfolk State junior Martha Bissah and
North Carolina A&T State junior G’Jasmyne Butler were named Women’s Cross Country Co-Runners of the Week.
Kimtai (Fr., Eldoret, Kenya) took first place in the 35th annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational this past Saturday, completing the 8K course in 25:56.67 and finishing more than a minute faster than second place. His performance was a big reason why the Aggies won the team title by 68 points.
Bissah (Jr., Accra, Ghana) picked up her second event title of the season on Saturday, winning gold in the George Mason Invitational after completing the 6K course in 21:41.70, 17 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Her performance led the Spartans to a third-place finish in the team standings.
Butler (Jr., Raleigh, N.C.) dominated the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational, taking gold after completing the 5K course in a school-record and personal-best 19:10.08. Her effort was part of a dominant weekend for the Aggies, who won the event with just 18 points.
Other Top Performers
Tariq Fullerton (HOW) came in 12th in the George Mason Invitational with a time of 27:27.50.
John Akakeya (MDES) ran a personal-best 26:05.43 to finish eighth in the Don Cathcart Invitational.
Mercy Chemutai (MDES) ran a 21:58.56 over 6K to win the Don Cathcart Invitational.
