Conference Play Resumes This Week for MEAC Volleyball

Conference play resumes for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) 12 volleyball-playing institutions this week, with Howard and North Carolina A&T State in the driver's seat of the Northern and Southern Divisions, respectively.

Last week saw limited non-conference action, and five teams were idle.

Howard defeated Bethune-Cookman on Sunday in a cross-divisional match-up, taking the match in five sets. This came two days after Bethune-Cookman defeated Coppin State in straight sets in Baltimore, Md. After this past week, Howard holds the best overall record in the conference at 13-9.

Howard claimed three of the MEAC's four weekly awards, with Jurnee Tipton earning Player of the Week honors, Fola Wilson taking the Defensive Specialist of the Week award and Tamia Dockery claiming Setter of the Week accolades.

Morgan State's Zoe McBride was named Rookie of the Week.

Florida A&M will be busy this week with four home matches. It will begin on Monday with a make-up match against South Carolina State, before the Lady Rattlers welcome Savannah State to the Al Lawson Center for another make-up on Tuesday. Both matches were postponed in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.

FAMU will then face North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central this weekend.

Howard, which has won a MEAC-best six straight matches, will hit the road this weekend to face Coppin State and Morgan State, as will Norfolk State as the Spartans look to make a late push for a top-four spot in the Northern Division standings. Morgan State currently sits second in the division, followed by Maryland Eastern Shore, Coppin State, Norfolk State and Delaware State.

The Aggies lead the way in the Southern Division, and this weekend they will face the No. 2 and 3 teams in the division, respectively, in Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. North Carolina Central sits fourth in the division, and South Carolina State and Savannah State round out the division.

The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Tigers will square off in Orangeburg, S.C. on Sunday.
