NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 1, 2018—Maryland Eastern Shore senior Lucia Babic and
North Carolina A&T State sophomore Courteney Pitt were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
North Carolina Central’s Arlanda Faulkner was named Rookie of the Week, while
North Carolina A&T State freshman Andrea Laboy-Rivera and
Morgan State senior Monette Daniels earned Co-Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and
Howard senior Tamia Dockery was named Setter of the Week.
Babic (5-10, Sr., OH, Sisak, Croatia) hit .700 in the Hawks’ MEAC-opening win over Delaware State on Friday, a match in which the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year racked up 15 kills and committed just one error. She also had three service aces and assisted on five blocks in the match, and her performance on offense helped Maryland Eastern Shore hit .492 for the match – its best effort since October 2008.
Pitt (6-1, So., OH, Farmville, N.C.) averaged nearly 5.5 kills per set in helping the Aggies to a 1-1 weekend to open conference play. She had 17 kills and eight digs on Friday against Florida A&M, and on Sunday, she hit .320 in racking up 21 kills, five digs and a service ace in a three-set win over Southern Division preseason favorite Bethune-Cookman. Pitt accounted for 5.9 points per set for the weekend.
Faulkner (5-9, Fr., OH/RS, Goldsboro, N.C.) averaged 3.15 kills and 2.69 digs per set this past week, and she had a career day in Friday’s five-set win over Southern Division preseason favorite Bethune-Cookman. In that match, she racked up a career-high 21 kills and 16 digs. Faulkner also had 12 kills, nine digs and three service aces against East Carolina, and she wrapped up the week with an eight-kill, 10-dig effort against Florida A&M.
Laboy-Rivera (5-5, Fr., DS, Coamo, Puerto Rico) averaged 6.3 digs per set for the Aggies in two matches this past weekend. After opening the weekend with a 17-dig performance against Florida A&M – a match in which she also had three service aces – she notched a career-high 27 digs in Sunday’s three-set win over Southern Division preseason favorite Bethune-Cookman.
Daniels (5-11, Sr., MB, Detroit, Mich.) had nine total blocks in two matches over the weekend, including eight in a four-set win over Norfolk State. She tied her career high for blocks in a single match, and for the weekend, Daniels averaged 1.1 blocks per set. In the Norfolk State match, she also had eight kills and two service aces.
Dockery (5-8, Sr., S, Richmond, Texas) averaged 9.6 assists per set in three matches this past week, helping the Bison to a 2-1 mark and an undefeated start to conference play. She recorded two double-doubles, highlighted by a 48-assist, 13-dig performance against Loyola (Md.). She followed that up on Friday with 38 assists and 11 digs in the MEAC opener against Morgan State. Dockery also had 39 assists against Coppin State.

Jordan Jefferson (B-CU) racked up 21 kills and 23 digs against North Carolina Central.
Miajavon Coleman (CSU) recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs against Howard.
Chelsie Kolibar (CSU) recorded 14 digs against UMBC and 13 against Howard.
Brianna Lang (CSU) averaged 8.1 assists per set for the week and had a 30-assist, 10-dig match against Norfolk State.
Valentina Carrasco (FAMU) had 22 digs against North Carolina Central.
Elena Dimitrova (FAMU) had 48 assists and 12 digs against North Carolina Central.
Radka Dimitrova (FAMU) hit .469 against North Carolina Central, racking up 24 kills and 15 digs.
Kailyn Williams (HOW) had 10 kills and nine digs against Coppin State.
Fola Wilson (HOW) notched 28 digs against Loyola (Md.) and added 19 more against Morgan State.
Mauri Carver (MDES) had three aces and four kills against Delaware State.
Sola Okesanjo (MDES) had four total blocks against Delaware State.
Cristen Coryatt (MSU) had a double-double of 12 kills and 14 digs against Howard.
Zoe McBride (MSU) had 15 kills and 10 digs against Norfolk State, before recording 10 kills against Howard.
Roi Wallace (MSU) racked up 40 assists and 12 digs against Norfolk State.
Edie Brewer (NCAT) had 40 assists against Bethune-Cookman.
Celene Morris (NCCU) had 14 digs against Bethune-Cookman and 13 against Florida A&M.
Anna Rupertova (NSU) racked up nine kills against Coppin State before adding seven against Coppin State to go along with 13 digs.
Kyra Marshall (SCSU) had seven kills and 10 digs in helping the Lady Bulldogs to a three-set win over Savannah State.
