MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 30, 2018Delaware State junior A’Nikeyawna “Keke” Barber was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Bairesha Gill-Miles earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State redshirt junior Khadedra Croker was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Barber (G, 5-10, Jr., Gainesville, Fla.) dropped a career-high 34 points in a 93-79 win over Savannah State this past Saturday, a game in which she also grabbed four rebounds and dished out a pair of assists. Barber shot 12-for-19 (.632) from the floor and went 7-for-10 (.700) from 3-point range. Those seven 3-pointers tied the program record for most made threes in a single game.
 
Gill-Miles (F, 6-0, Fr., Lexington, Ky.) averaged a double-double for the second straight week, going for 12.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in two contests. In a win over Howard, Gill-Miles scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, to go along with a steal, before turning in an 11-point, 15-rebound effort against Coppin State. In those two games, she went a combined 11-for-25 (.440) from the floor.
 
Croker (F/C, 6-3, r-Jr., Suffolk, Va.) averaged 5.0 blocks per game for the Spartans this past week. One of the nation’s most prolific shot blockers (ranking fifth in all of Div. I in blocks per game), Croker had five blocks to go along with six rebounds against Bethune-Cookman, before turning in another five blocks in a blowout win over Florida A&M.
 
Other Top Performers
Brianna Battle (B-CU) scored nine points in a win over Hampton.
 
Chasimmie Brown (B-CU) averaged 8.5 rebounds per game, and against Hampton, she had seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks to go along with 10 points.
 
Angel Golden (B-CU) scored 23 points against Hampton, while also grabbing seven rebounds and two steals.
 
Chance Graham (CSU) dropped 21 points and grabbed 20 rebounds against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Maraiyah Smith (CSU) scored 14 points against South Carolina State and 13 against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Genesis Lucas (CSU) scored 18 points, to go along with eight rebounds and six assists, in a win over South Carolina State, before added 17 points against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
NaJai Pollard (DSU) had 25 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and three steals against Savannah State.
 
De’ayra Davis (FAMU) averaged 10.5 points in two games, scoring 11 against Norfolk State and 10 against Hampton.
 
Mikayla Sayle (HAM) grabbed 12 rebounds against Florida A&M and scored a season-high 14 points against Bethune-Cookman.
 
K’lynn Willis (HAM) had 20 points, seven assists and five steals against Florida A&M.
 
Jayla Myles (HOW) had 10 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Ayonna Williams (HOW) scored 15 points to go along with five rebounds, three steals and two assists against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Adre’onia Coleman (MSU) recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds in a win over South Carolina State.
 
Tykyrah Williams (MSU) had 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals against South Carolina State.

Alexus Lessears (NCAT) had 13 points and 16 rebounds in a win over rival North Carolina Central, while also blocking three shots and grabbing two steals.
 
Kayla Roberts (NSU) had 16 points and 10 rebounds against Bethune-Cookman, before scoring 23 points and grabbing nine boards in a win over Florida A&M.
 
Kaylee Allen (SSU) had 30 points and 15 rebounds in a loss at Delaware State.
 
Alexxus Sowell (SSU) grabbed eight rebounds and had five blocks against Delaware State.
