MEAC Announces Women's Tennis Weekly Awards

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 24, 2018Morgan State junior Danielle Thompson was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Bethune-Cookman’s Rehaana Butt was named Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced.
 
Thompson (5-2, Jr., Nassau, Bahamas) was dominant in the No. 1 singles position in Morgan State’s 6-1 win over La Salle on Saturday, defeating Brittany Poje 6-1, 6-1. She also posted a 6-0 win along with Asmara Faulke in the No. 1 doubles position over Alin Snyder and Tiffany Theophil.
 
Butt (5-9, Fr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) picked up Bethune-Cookman’s lone point in a season-opening match against Stetson this past Sunday, defeating the Hatters’ Danel Ashirova 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles position in her collegiate debut. She also competed in the No. 2 doubles spot, alongside Phatsimo Ruele in a 6-2 defeat.
