NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 2, 2018—Howard sophomore Sarah Edmond and
Morgan State senior Lexus Spears were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Howard’s Curstyn Moore earned Rookie of the Week honors, while
Howard sophomore Jayla Myles was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Edmond (G, 5-9, So., Freeport, N.Y.) averaged 20.0 points and 4.5 assists per game over the past week, going a combined 13-for-23 (.565) from the floor. Against Brown, Edmond dropped a career-high 28 points on 9-for-17 shooting, while also dishing out six assists, grabbing five rebounds and notching three steals. In a win over Campbell, she went 6-for-8 from the floor for 12 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists.
Spears (F/C, 6-2, Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) went 10-for-12 (.833) from the floor in a win over UMass Lowell, scoring a game-high 21 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Her performance helped Morgan State finish the non-conference slate at 7-6, its first winning non-conference record since the 2008-09 season.
Moore (G/F, 5-10, Fr., Mount Vernon, N.Y.) averaged 11.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and she scored 13 points to go along with five rebounds against Campbell. She followed that up with a career-high 10 rebounds against Brown – a game in which she was just one point shy of a double-double.
Myles (C, 6-2, So., Rochester, N.Y.) averaged 10.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game this past week. In a win over Campbell, she grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds and blocked four shots – before turning in an eight-rebound, five-block performance against Brown.

Lanayjha Ashe (DSU) had 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists against Florida Atlantic.
Ryan Jones (DSU) scored 13 points at Florida before turning in a 12-point, five-rebound, two-assist performance against Florida Atlantic.
Florence Ouattara (FAMU) scored 18 points at Alabama to go along with four assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Adre’onia Coleman (MSU) recorded a double-double against UMass Lowell with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while also blocking three shots.
Alexus Lessears (NCAT) had 13 points and eight rebounds in a loss at Ohio.
Cinia McCray (NCAT) went 8-for-13 from the floor at Ohio, scoring 23 points and grabbing six rebounds.
Khadedra Croker (NSU) had six rebounds and three blocks in a win over Longwood.
