DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Former Bethune-Cookman standout
Kailyn Williams has signed a professional contract with BCF Elfic Friboug Basket in Switzerland.
A two-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player Of The Year and Boxtorow All-American, Williams averaged 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while leading the nation with 123 blocked shots and playing a key role in Bethune-Cookman's repeat as regular-season champions and its first MEAC tournament appearance in 25 years.
Her final career total of 455 blocks ranked her fifth all-time in Division I. She also finished seventh on Bethune-Cookman's all-time scoring list (1,099) and third second in rebounding (993).
Fribourg competes in the eight-team Ligue Nationale de Basket as well as the EuroCup. Its first game is September 30.
Williams is the second player in the
Vanessa Blair-Lewis era to play professionally overseas.
Demetria Frank, now on staff as an assistant coach, spent one season with the Eastern Mavericks in Australia's Premier League.
"We are very proud of Kaiyln as she embarks on her professional career. I know that she will contribute greatly to her new team as she did here," Blair-Lewis. "The sky is the limit for Big Kay. She is just scratching the surface of her abilities."
Bethune-Cookman opens its 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10 at home against Edward Waters.
