JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Savannah State volleyball team fell to the University of North Florida 3-0 (14-25, 13-25, 14-25) Wednesday to snap the Lady Tigers two-match winning streak in UNF Arena.
Junior outside hitter Jennifer Rosado led the Lady Tigers with five kills and added two blocks and two digs, while freshman outside hitter Amanda Rullan Vilanova and freshman middle blocker Tyran Chenault each added four kills. Rullan Vilanova recorded a .300 hitting percentage, while Chenault added four blocks.
Senior setter Alee Quint led the team with 13 assists, while freshman setter Salma Gonzalez led the team with nine digs and added three assists and freshman libero Leiri Melendez added eight digs.
With the first set tied at four, North Florida scored the next five points to take a five-point lead, 9-4, forcing a Savannah State timeout. After the timeout, Gonzalez recorded a kill to cut the lead to four points, 9-5, but the Ospreys outscored the Lady Tigers 14-9 during the rest of the set to win the set and to take a 1-0 match lead.
North Florida scored three of the first four points in the second stanza to take a two-point lead, 3-1, but the Lady Tigers scored four of the next five points to take a point lead, 5-4. With the set tied at eight, the Ospreys outscored Savannah State 17-5 during the rest of the set to win the set and to take a 2-0 match lead.
The Lady Tigers scored six of the first 10 points in the final frame to take a two-point lead, 6-4, but the Ospreys scored the next five points to take a three-point lead, 9-6, forcing a Savannah State timeout. After the timeout, the Lady Tigers scored three of the next five points to cut the lead to two points, 11-9, but UNF outscored SSU 14-5 during the rest of the set to win the set and the match.
The Ospreys were led by Katarina Raicevic with 11 kills with a .556 hitting percentage, Sadie Thurston with 20 assists and Ashely LaBorde and Callie Workman with nine digs each.
