Hampton University sophomore Kial Watts was selected as the Mid-Eastern Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Hampton's Allie Hotetz earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while teammate Taylor Warrick was named Rookie of the Week.
Watts (OF, 5-4, So., West Haven, Conn.) had a productive weekend at the plate with a .667 average, eight hits, five RBIs, three runs scored and eight total bases. On Sunday, she combined for seven hits and four RBIs in a pair of wins over Morgan State.
Hotetz (P, 5-9, So., San Bernardino, Calif.) pitched two shutouts on Sunday versus Morgan State. She struck out 11 batters over two games while holding MSU's offense to a .156 average. Hampton scored twice in the first inning during game one on Sunday and relied on Hotetz the remainder of the way for the shutout.
Warrick (OF, 5-8, Fr., Laurel, N.J.) batted .273 with three hits and six total bases during Hampton's three-game sweep. The freshman also scored twice with a triple and double.
