• MEAC softball enters week 14 highlighted by the 2017 MEAC Softball Championship in Ormond Beach, Fla. The three-day event pits the top eight softball teams from the MEAC in a double-elimination tournament.
• Hampton and Florida A&M are the top seeds entering this week's tournament. FAMU is the three-time defending tournament champion and holds the top seed for the first time since 2009. Hampton last entered as the top seed in 2013.
• Hampton enters postseason play as the hottest team in the league with nine consecutive wins. The Lady Pirates rolled through divisional play with a 17-1 record under first-year head coach Angela Nicholson.
• Morgan State enters postseason play on a down note as they were swept by Hampton last week. They've dropped six straight contests and fell to the No. 3 seed as a result after having an opportunity to win the MEAC North.
• Only five teams have claimed MEAC Championships since softball was instituted in the MEAC. Bethune-Cookman (8), Florida A&M (10), Hampton (2), Howard (1) and Delaware State (1) are the only teams that have won softball championships.
• Morgan State and Bethune-Cookman are carrying the MEAC banner in terms of non-conference play as the Bears and Wildcats have a league-best 11 and 10 wins, respectively.
• Morgan State's Damali Young saw her stolen base streak end three weeks ago at 34 as she was caught stealing in the series versus Maryland Eastern Shore. Young is now 40-of-41 for the season.
• Bethune-Cookman's Ryan Jackson leads the MEAC with a .409 average, 13 home runs, 44 RBI and 105 total bases. She ranks second with 56 hits and is tied for third with 35 runs scored. She is a finalist for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I National Freshman of the Year.
• Morgan State's Amy Begg, Maryland Eastern Shore's Adrienne Guerra and Florida A&M's Kenya Pereira lead the MEAC with 170, 149, and 140 strikeouts, respectively.
• North Carolina Central will make its postseason debut after securing a spot in the MEAC Tournament for the first time in program history since joining the league in 2012. NCCU is led by first-year head coach Vashion Johnson.
