WEEK 10 SOFTBALL RELEASE

• MEAC softball enters week 10 highlighted by five conference contests and seven non-conference midweek series highlighted by Florida A&M and Savannah State’s ESPNU contest this Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla.

• The MEAC North features two big series this weekend as undefeated Morgan State faces third-place Delaware State while second-place Hampton travels to fourth-place Maryland Eastern Shore.

• Florida A&M’s sweep over North Carolina A&T State puts them in the driver’s seat for the MEAC North Championship with only two series left (Savannah State & Bethune-Cookman). FAMU has won 10 consecutive games.

• Morgan State and Bethune-Cookman are carrying the MEAC banner in terms of non-conference play as the Bears and Wildcats have a league-best 11 and nine wins, respectively.

• Only one team (Savannah State) remains winless in 2017.

• Morgan State’s Damali Young is a perfect 32-of-32 in stolen bases and holds the MSU single season record. Bethune-Cookman’s Ryan Jackson leads the MEAC with 12 home runs, 39 RBI and 95 total bases. She ranks second in hits (50) and runs (32).

• Morgan State’s Amy Begg, Florida A&M’s Kenya Pereira and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Adrienne Guerra lead the MEAC with 119, 103 and 98 strikeouts, respectively.

• Delaware State head coach Amber Jackson was inducted into the 2017 MEAC Hall of Fame Class on March 9. Jackson was a former softball standout at Bethune-Cookman.

• The Delaware State Hornets and the Florida A&M Lady Rattlers were predicted to win the MEAC softball northern and southern divisions, respectively.

• The FAMU Softball team handed Coach Veronica Wiggins a milestone 700th win Saturday, March 13 with an 8-1 win over Howard University in the final game of the Puerto Rico College Softball Classic. Wiggins achieved her 250th MEAC win on Sunday, April 2 and is 250-87 (.741) all-time in MEAC play.
