MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

 

 

Hampton junior Jada Fields was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Norfolk State’s Hunter Halford earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while teammate Meaghan Barfield was named Rookie of the Week.

Fields (1B, 5-10, Jr, Woodland Park, N.J.) recorded a .400 batting average, in four games, at the 2017 Carolina Classic. She finished with three runs, two RBI and four hits, including three doubles and one home run. Defensively, she registered 33 putouts. Her performance earned her All-Tournament team honors.

Halford (P, 5-7, So., Jacksonville, N.C.) notched a 0.38 ERA in four games at the Spartan Classic. She allowed only one earned run in 18.1 innings and recorded eight strikeouts and two wins. She pitched a shutout to earn a win over Buffalo.

Barfield (3B, 5-4, Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) went 4-for-11 at the plate in four games at the Spartan Classic. She recorded one run and three RBI in the tournament. Defensively, she recorded 14 assists and eight putouts at third base.

Other Top Performers

Ryan Jackson (B-CU) carried a .333 batting average with three RBISs and a home run against Michigan at the Mary Nutter Classic.

Jacki Smith (B-CU) batted .375 and registered a perfect fielding percentage with five putouts and four assists at the Mary Nutter Classic.

Camille Nowak (CSU) stole one base against East Carolina at the Pirate Invitational.

Patricia Soria (CSU) led the team with three hits at the Pirate Invitational.

Adrienne Guerra (MDES) posted a 0.64 ERA with six strikeouts, in 11.0 innings, against Presbyterian and Charleston Southern.

Sarah Maldonado (MDES) went 5-for-10 at the plate in four games at the Willie Jewell’s Invitational Tournament.

Devon Bitler (NSU) finished with five hits, including two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI at the Spartan Classic.

Alysha Bolling (SSU) batted .300, with one run, one RBI and one double, in four games at the Orange and Black Classic.

Chasney Jenkins (SSU) recorded an on base percentage of .571 and batted .300 with three hits and five walks, at the Orange and Black Classic.
