MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va. - Howards R.J. Cole has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Men's Basketball Players of the Week, the conference announced today. Cole also was named Rookie of the Week while Morgan State’s Phillip Carr was selected as Defensive Player of the Week.

Cole averaged 29.5 points in two games last week as he led Howard to a 1-1 mark which included a win over UNC Wilmington at the annual Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso, Texas. The freshman also pulled down an average of seven rebounds in two games while shooting 43.9 percent overall, 88.2 percent from the free throw line and 47.1 percent beyond the arc. Cole also averaged seven assists and two steals per contest, respectively. Versus UNC Wilmington, Cole erupted for 42 points while also grabbing six rebounds with four steals and four assists. He also shot 59.1 percent from the field while nailing 11-of-13 free throws.

Carr had an impressive performance during Morgan State’s tough loss at George Mason. The senior forward posted his fifth double-double of the season which featured a game-high 10 rebounds. He also had two blocks in 35 minutes of action.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Tiwian Kendley (Morgan State) returned to the court for the first time this season with an impressive 31-point, five rebound performance at George Mason.

Jermaine Marrow (Hampton) averaged 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds as Hampton finished 1-1 last week. He also had a career-high 10 rebounds in the win over Appalachian State while finishing a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line in two games.

Kyle Williams (Norfolk State) scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds for the Spartans as they battled Old Dominion to the wire.
