MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 26, 2017Bethune-Cookman junior Angel Golden was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Bairesha Gill-Miles earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State redshirt junior Khadedra Croker was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Golden (G, 5-8, Jr., Tampa. Fla.) averaged 22.5 points and 2.0 steals per game in helping Bethune-Cookman win the Stetson Hatter Classic this past week, picking up wins over Texas State and Richmond. She was a combined 13-for-26 (.500) from the floor, and she dropped 24 points on 7-for-10 shooting against Richmond – in a game where she also went 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Against Texas State, Golden had 21 points and three steals.
 
Gill-Miles (F, 6-0, Fr., Lexington, Ky.) averaged 15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two games this past week, shooting a combined 58.3 percent (14-for-24) from the floor. In the Hawks’ home win over UMBC, she had 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Against Mount St. Mary’s (Md.), Gill-Miles scored 12 points on 5-for-11 shooting.
 
Croker (F/C, 6-3, r-Jr., Suffolk, Va.) was key in Norfolk State’s overtime win at William & Mary, thanks to her eight rebounds, three blocked shots and one steal – recording her seventh game of the season with at least three blocks. Her final block of the contest came with 28 seconds left in overtime to help preserve the win.
 
Other Top Performers
Ashanti Hunt (B-CU) grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds to go along with nine points against Texas State.
 
Amaya Scott (B-CU) had six points and six rebounds against Richmond.

Genesis Lucas (CSU) scored 17 points against No. 14 Maryland.
 
Monnazjea Finney-Smith (HAM) scored 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting at TCU.
 
K’lynn Willis (HAM) grabbed four steals and dished out five assists at TCU.
 
Ayonna Williams (HOW) had 14 points and seven rebounds in a loss at Georgia.
 
C’Coriea Foy (NCAT) scored 18 points, to go along with five rebounds and six assists, in a win over Western Carolina.
 
Le’on Hill (NCAT) grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds against Western Carolina.
 
Paulina Afriyie (NCCU) set career highs in points (16) and rebounds (15) against Campbell.
 
Kayla Roberts (NSU) had 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals at William & Mary.
