NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 19, 2017Norfolk State senior Kayla Roberts was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Brianna Battle and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Bairesha Gill-Miles earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State redshirt junior Khadedra Croker was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Roberts (G/F, 6-1, Sr., Miami, Fla.) averaged 14.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in helping the Spartans pick up wins over Towson, UNC Greensboro and Campbell this past week. She dropped 18 points at Campbell, while also grabbing six rebounds and three steals. Against UNC Greensboro, Roberts had 13 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
 
Battle (G, 5-3, Fr., Pompano Beach, Fla.) averaged 15.5 points and 3.5 assists per game in helping Bethune-Cookman to a 1-1 record this past week. In a win over Southern, she had 15 points and five assists, before racking up 16 points, two assists and two steals against Jacksonville.
 
Gill-Miles (F, 6-0, Fr., Lexington, Ky.) went 8-for-12 from the floor, scoring 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season in a win over Wesley College. She also had six steals and three assists in that contest.
 
Croker (F/C, 6-3, r-Jr., Suffolk, Va.) averaged 3.3 blocks per game in helping the Spartans to a 3-0 record this past week. She had four blocks in a win over Towson, before blocking six shots in Monday’s 53-27 win at Campbell – a game in which Norfolk State set a new program Div. I record for fewest points allowed in a game (while holding Campbell to just 14.6 percent shooting).
 
Other Top Performers
Chasimmie Brown (B-CU) had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Southern, before scoring 15 points against Jacksonville.
 
Ashanti Hunt (B-CU) had four blocks and two steals against Jacksonville.
 
Genesis Lucas (CSU) scored a game-high 22 points and had four steals at VCU.
 
Jayla Miles (HOW) blocked four shots in a road loss to Cincinnati.
 
Ayonna Williams (HOW) scored 11 points and dished out two assists at Cincinnati.
 
Dominique Walker (MDES) scored 17 points and had five steals in a win over Wesley College.
 
Tykyrah Williams (MSU) had 20 points and eight rebounds at nationally-ranked West Virginia.
 
C’Coriea Foy (NCAT) had a career-high seven assists and two steals in a loss to Georgia.
 
Kala Green (NCAT) scored 23 points on 7-for-13 shooting against Georgia.
 
Armani Franklin (NSU) scored 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting in a win over UNC Greensboro.
 
Kemoni Jenkins (SCSU) scored 15 points each in wins over Charleston Southern and Western Carolina.
 
Donasja Scott (SSU) scored 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting at defending national champion South Carolina.
