NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 12, 2017—Florida A&M junior Florence Ouattara and North Carolina A&T State sophomore C’Coriea Foy were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Howard’s Tariah Johnson earned Rookie of the Week honors, while North Carolina A&T State sophomore Le’on Hill was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Ouattara (G, 5-11, Jr., Tissale, Ivory Coast) shot over 55 percent from the floor (16-for-29, .551) in two games for Florida A&M this past week, while also going a combined 5-for-12 (.416) from 3-point range. In averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game, Ouattara led the Lady Rattlers to a 1-1 record for the week – and she had 25 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots in a win over Lynn University.
Foy (G, 6-0, So., Fayetteville, N.C.) scored a game-high 20 points in the Aggies’ win over St. Augustine’s, while also grabbing a season-high eight rebounds, dishing out a season-high five assists and grabbing a season-high eight steals. She hit three of her eight 3-pointers (.375) in the decisive victory.
Johnson (G, 5-11, Fr., Chapel Hill, N.C.) scored 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting (.444) in a 72-69 overtime win over St. Francis Brooklyn, to go along with seven rebounds and a pair of steals.
Hill (F, 6-2, So., Columbia, S.C.) had an all-around excellent defensive game against St. Augustine’s on Monday, recording career highs in rebounds with nine (eight on the defensive end), as well as steals with six and blocked shots with three.
Other Top Performers
Brianna Battle (B-CU) had five points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in a win over Palm Beach Atlantic.
Angel Golden (B-CU) scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Palm Beach Atlantic.
Ashanti Hunt (B-CU) had 10 points, five rebounds and four steals against Palm Beach Atlantic.
Chance Graham (CSU) grabbed 12 rebounds at Middle Tennessee before adding 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals at No. 10 West Virginia.
Genesis Lucas (CSU) averaged 16.0 points and 3.5 assists per game in losses to Middle Tennessee and West Virginia.
Alicia McCray (FAMU) averaged 9.5 rebounds in two games this past week, and she had 13 rebounds and six blocks against North Florida.
DeJane’ James (HAM) scored 16 points, to go along with a season-high six assists and six steals, against Temple.
Allina Starr (HAM) had a season-high six steals against Temple.
Imani Bryant (HOW) grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked three shots against St. Francis Brooklyn.
Ayonna Williams (HOW) scored 19 points on 6-for-13 shooting against St. Francis Brooklyn.
Bairesha Gill-Miles (MDES) scored 10 points each against Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Martha Thompson (MDES) dropped 23 points on 9-for-15 shooting at Wake Forest.
Braennan Farrar (MSU) had 17 points and six steals in a loss at Marshall.
Lexus Spears (MSU) scored 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting at Marshall.
