SMYRNA, Del. – Norfolk State had four runners finish in the top five Saturday morning en route to taking the 2017 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Cross Country Championship at the Delaware State University Outreach & Research Center.
The Spartans had 25 points in winning their 12th title overall – and their first since 2011. Kenneth Giles was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Coach. Norfolk State averaged a 25:29.00 over the 8K course.
David Too of Florida A&M was named Most Outstanding Performer after winning individual gold with a time of 24:48.80.
Too had 20 seconds on second place – but the Spartans claimed the second through fifth spots in the running order. Anteneh Girma was second with a 25:08.40, while Bill Kemboi was third (25:14.50), Ronald Korir came in fourth (25:19.40) and Felix Kiprotich (25:35.70) was fifth.
Maryland Eastern Shore came in second with 84 points, while Bethune-Cookman recorded 111 points to finish third. Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T State, Savannah State, Hampton, Howard, Delaware State, Coppin State, South Carolina State and North Carolina Central rounded out the team standings.
The top 15 finishers were named All-MEAC.
