MEAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors



Hampton's Jermaine Marrow has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week, the conference announced today. Marrow was also tabbed the MEAC Rookie of the Week while Norfolk State's Jordan Butler and North Carolina Central's Kyle Benton were named co-Defensive Players of the Week.

Marrow was the MEAC’s top scorer with 24 points per game as the Pirates finished the past week with a 2-0 mark. He also tallied 4.5 rebounds per game, shot 50 percent from the three-point line, 45.7 percent from the field and dished out four assists per contest. The freshman from Newport News, Va. scored 25 points with two steals in the win over Savannah State and played 45 minutes with 23 points, six assists and six rebounds in an overtime win at Delaware State.

Butler averaged a MEAC-best 10 rebounds and three blocks per game as the Spartans finished with a 1-1 mark. The 6-6 redshirt junior forward from Hartford, Conn. finished with 13 rebounds, three blocks and a steal in the win over Savannah State on Jan. 11. He returned to the court three days later with a seven-rebound, three-block outing versus North Carolina Central to finish with six blocks in two contests.

Benton had an all-around defensive performance last week as the senior from Los Angeles, Calif. averaged 9.7 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.3 blocks. The 6-7, 230-pound forward led the MEAC with 29 total rebounds while also tallying five steals and four blocks. Benton posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds with three steals versus Delaware State while grabbing 12 boards at Norfolk State. He also totaled 12 offensive rebounds with a high of eight versus Delaware State.
