PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Howard volleyball team went a perfect 2-0 on the opening day of the Penn Invitational. The Bison started with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-13, 25-19) victory over George Mason before sweeping Penn (25-20, 25-22, 25-19) in the nightcap at the Palestra.
Howard improved to 6-3 on the season with the pair of wins.

ELON, N.C. – Late rallies in all three sets came up short each time as the Norfolk State volleyball team fell to Elon by a 3-0 score on Friday afternoon in the Phoenix Classic at Elon’s Alumni Gym.
NSU was down by at least eight points in all three sets before losing by scores of 25-20, 26-24 and 25-21. Elon used a big advantage at the net to improve its record to 6-2 despite a so-so performance on offense.
Senior Jessica Johnson led NSU (1-8), tallying 10 kills and 10 digs for the team’s first double-double of the season. Senior Sydney Dailey nearly doubled her previous career best as she finished with 21 digs.

PULLMAN, Wash.— Maryland Eastern Shore did their best to hold on, but the Washington State Cougars were simply too tough, defeating the Hawks in straight sets (16-25, 11-25, 18-25) at Bohler Gymnasium Friday afternoon.
Freshman Iva Vujosevic stood out for the Hawks in the match, supplying 10 kills with four digs and three aces. Junior Kirstin Fink led in digs with five, and both junior Alana Polk and sophomore Marta Klafuric contributed two block participations.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Savannah State University volleyball team (0-8) fell to Chicago State University (1-6) 3-0 (15-25, 22-25, 19-25) Friday to open the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational.
Senior setter Caitlynn Masoe and freshman middle blocker Dominique Ingram led the Lady Tigers with six kills each, while Masoe added seven assists, six digs and a service ace.  Junior setter Alee Quint led the team with 12 assists and senior libero Alexis Washington led the team with 12 digs.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The sophomore middle blocking duo of Jazmine Daye and Whitney White tallied eight kills apiece to lead North Carolina Central University in a 3-0 road loss to host UNC Asheville on day one of the UNCA Invitational Friday evening in the Justice Center.
The Bulldogs hit .294 for the match in winning in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-14. UNCA (3-2) has won three straight matches and NCCU (0-4) remained winless.

North Carolina A&T State 3, Hampton 0
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Hampton University opened play in the Spartan-Aggie Invitational on Friday night taking on MEAC Southern Division foe North Carolina A&T State and dropped a 3-0 tightly-contested decision 25-21, 25-23,25-21.
In a match that saw 18 ties and six lead changes, Hampton couldn’t get over the hump and fell to 0-6 on the season.  Lena Washington recorded a season-best nine kills and broke her career-best attack percentage hitting .500.  Reeana Richardson added seven kills, five digs and two aces, while Ravyn Richardson had six for Hampton.  Brianna Lilly had 26 assists for the Lady Pirates who will face Radford Saturday at 11 am and UNC Greensboro at 7 pm.
