DOVER, Del. --- The 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) champion Delaware State bowling team has earned national recognition for its work in the classroom.
The National Tenpin Coaches Association has released its annual list of teams with “exemplary” grade-point averages for the 2015-16 academic year. To be considered for team recognition, programs must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. Delaware State was sixth among the 17 programs that reached the standard with a team GPA of 3.542.
In addition, five Hornet bowlers are among 163 student-athletes earning NTCA All-Academic recognition by maintaining at least a 3.4 GPA for the 2015-16 school year.
Delaware State’s newest All-Academic bowlers are Elizabeth Burkholder, Amoni Knight, Amber MacLeod, Stephanie Sheridan and Ryanne Tyler.
Head coach Elysia Current led the Hornets to the third MEAC bowling championship in team history with a 4-1 victory over Norfolk State on March 27 in Virginia Beach, Va. Sheridan was also selected as the MEAC’s Most Outstanding Tournament Performer.
The Hornets also qualified for the United States Bowling Congress National Championship tournament for the second year in a row during the 2015-16 season.
