HAMPTON, Va. – Seven Hampton University tennis players, along with both teams, were recently recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on their All-Academic teams.
Charles Hudson, Peter Odegbami, Fedor Shirin, Miguel Suarez and Luke Thompson were honored from the men’s team. Being recognized from the women’s team were Mariam Mitaishvili and Anastasiia Romanova.
“I am so proud of our student-athletes in the Tennis Program. Their achievements in the classroom speaks volumes about the Athletic Department's commitment to our students, through our Academic Support Programs,” said head coach Rush Cole. “To be recognized by the ITA, our sport's governing body, is quite an honor and will serve as inspiration to future Pirates.”
More than 4,200 scholar-athletes were recognized across all divisions, along with over 700 all-academic teams. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). To be recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete you must have finished the 2015-16 academic year with at least a 3.50 grade point average.
